Purpose
What problem does DisasterSignal solve?
Important disaster facts are often scattered across scientific feeds, international discovery systems and local agencies. DisasterSignal places source identity, timestamps, coordinates and evidence boundaries in one readable record. The first public release is deliberately narrow: it shows the USGS Significant Earthquakes, Past Week feed and separately monitors GDACS flood and landslide records for private review.
That scope is a product boundary, not a claim that other disasters are unimportant. It prevents a broad visual interface from implying broad or complete coverage before the supporting review workflow exists.
Audience and responsibility
Who is this service for?
Journalists, researchers, NGOs and travel or logistics risk teams can use DisasterSignal as a discovery and evidence-tracing tool. Every consequential fact should still be attributed to and checked against the linked source. People facing immediate danger should follow national and local authorities, not this website.
How can I report an error?
Send display, source, attribution or classification corrections to corrections@disastersignal.org. Include the event URL, the disputed text and a supporting source. Privacy questions can be sent to privacy@disastersignal.org.
